We will only use the personal information gathered from you in the registration & challenge application process to communicate with you as part of the Hackathon. Afterwards your data will be deleted again.

1. What Information We Collect

1.1 When accessing our Site

Like many site operators, we collect information that your browser sends whenever you visit our Site (“Log Data”). We collect such Log Data irrespective of whether you have registered for an account on our Site.

This Log Data may include information such as your computer’s Internet Protocol (“IP”) address, browser type, browser version, the pages of our Site that you visit, the time and date of your visit, the time spent on those pages and other statistics.

1.2 When entering information on our Site

Most of our services do not require any form of registration, allowing you to visit our Site without telling us who you are.

However, some services may require you to register for an account. For the account setup we may collect personally identifiable information about you, such as your full name, phone number and email address. Furthermore, if you choose to purchase a product from us, we or our third-party payment processors will collect your payment information.

Furthermore, if you have registered for an account, you may be able to contact some of our partner companies to redeem special offers that they may provide for our members (“Member’s Package”). If you choose to contact one of our partner companies with regard to a Member’s Package, you will be requested to share personally identifiable information about you with them, such as your full name, address, phone number and email address.

Furthermore, irrespective of whether you have registered for an account on our Site, you can choose to sign up for one or more of our newsletters. If you sign up for our newsletter, we will collect your email address. If you no longer wish to receive these emails, you may opt out of them by making use of the unsubscribe option included at the end of each of our emails.

1.3 In addition to the above

We use Google Analytics, which is a web analytics service offered by Google that tracks and reports website traffic. Google uses the data collected to track and monitor the use of our website. In this context, your IP address will be processed and transmitted in anonymized form.

Furthermore, if you have registered for an account on our Site, we use a Cookie to save your login data.

2. How We Collect Your Information

When accessing our Site, your Log Data will be collected automatically. Apart from that, all other information is collected on the basis on the information that you enter on our Site.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the information that we collect

  • to allow us to offer and provide our services,
  • to operate and maintain our site,
  • to send you marketing communication,
  • to respond to your questions and concerns,
  • to allow us to perform contracts we have signed with our customers, suppliers or partners,
  • to allow contract management, e.g. to address our invoices to our customers,
  • to enhance our services and the use of them,
  • to perform research and analysis relating to our services,
  • to perform tracking of the use of our services,
  • to conduct market surveys.

In case we receive personal data via our customers, suppliers or partners, we assume the respective party has informed the user of this Privacy Notice.

4. How We Share Your Information

4.1 Personally Identifiable Information

We may store personal information in locations outside the direct control of us (for instance, on servers or databases co-located with hosting providers) and use third party services such as Google Analytics to collect, monitor and analyze data.

We will not rent or sell your personally identifiable information to others.

Any personally identifiable information you elect to make publicly available on our Sites or Social Media Pages, such as posting comments on our blog page, will be available to others. If you remove information that you have made public on our site, copies may remain viewable in cached and archived pages of our site or if other users saved that information.

If you have registered for an account on our Site and if you use the relevant web form to contact one of our partner companies with regard to a Member’s Package, we will share with them the information that you enter in such form, such as your full name, address, phone number and email address.

4.2 Non-Personally Identifiable Information

We may share non-personally identifiable information (such as anonymous usage data, referring/exit pages and URLs, platform types, number of clicks etc.)

5. How we protect your data

The security of your Personal Information is important to us. We maintain the following technical and organizational security measures to protect your data:

  • All our sites and systems that store and use data are password protected so that only authorized persons can gain access.
  • We ensure that only team members directly involved in any of the processes listed in Section 3 do have access to our data and that data cannot be read, copied, modified, or removed without authorization during processing, use and storage.
  • We make sure that we are able to track whether and by whom data has been entered, modified, or removed in our data processing system.
  • In case of a material breach of any of the controls above we will make sure that you are notified immediately.

Please remember that no method of transmission over the internet, or method of electronic storage, is 100% secure. While we strive to use commercially acceptable means to protect your personal information, we cannot guarantee its absolute security.

Austrianstartups e.V. is located in Austria. Transfers to data processors based outside of the EU, such as for example Mailchimp or Eventbrite will be protected by appropriate safeguards, namely the use of standard data protection clauses adopted or approved by the European Commission (a copy of which can be obtained from the Site of the European Union Law).

6. What Rights you have

  • Right to Be Informed & Right of Access

    You have the right to be informed about the collection and use of your personal data at the point of data collection, which is the purpose of this page. Furthermore, you may contact us at any time to find out whether or not we are processing any of your data. We will inform you of what personal data we process regarding you, the reasons for this, the categories of recipients to whom data have been or will be made accessible and the period of time we are planning to store information.

  • Right to Withdraw Consent

    In case the usage of your data is based on a consent you granted to us, you may withdraw your consent at any time by writing us an email or by using the functionalities of our services provided for this (e.g. the unsubscribe button at the end of our newsletter). Withdrawing a consent may lead to fewer possibilities to use our services.

  • Right to Rectification

    You have the right to have inaccurate or incomplete personal data we store about you corrected or completed.

  • Right to Data Portability

    If you request it, we will provide the personal data previously collected by us to you in structured, commonly used and machine readable format.

  • Right to restriction, objection and erasure:

    We will delete, restrict processing and/or stop processing your personal information if you request us to do so and we no longer have a legitimate ground to store the data (e.g. contract fulfillment).

If you want exercise any of the above mentioned rights you shall send us a letter or email to the address set out below under Contact. We may request additional information such as a copy of a valid proof of identity to verify your request.

Moreover, you can choose here whether we can use Google Analytics to analyze your use of our Site. You can opt-out of tracking by Google Analytics by visiting the Google Analytics opt-out page and installing the add-on for your browser.

7. What happens if things change

This Privacy Policy is effective as of 1 November 2018 and will remain in effect except with respect to any changes in its provisions in the future, which will be in effect immediately after being posted on this page.

We reserve the right to update or change our Privacy Policy at any time and you should check this Privacy Policy periodically. Your continued use of the service after we post any modifications to the Privacy Policy on this page will constitute your acknowledgment of the modifications and your consent to abide and be bound by the modified Privacy Policy.

If we make any material changes to this Privacy Policy, we will notify you either through the email address you have provided us, or by placing a prominent notice on our Site.
